{"id":173,"date":"2011-04-28T23:35:53","date_gmt":"2011-04-28T23:35:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bizexteam.com\/?p=173"},"modified":"2023-07-04T16:21:08","modified_gmt":"2023-07-04T16:21:08","slug":"leadership-in-context-continued","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bizexteam.com\/index.php\/2011\/04\/28\/leadership-in-context-continued\/","title":{"rendered":"Leadership in Context, continued"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Leadership in Context &#8211; Continued<\/h1>\n<h2>More models leading to the FIVE \u201cCs\u201d of Leadership; An overview of the attributes of leadership<span style=\"color: #444444; line-height: 24px; font-size: 16px;\"> <\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In my last posting, I described some approaches to leadership and leadership paradigms.\u00a0 This posting describes some other, more complex models, which describe leadership attributes.<\/p>\n<h2>Mark Sanborn, <em>\u201cYou Don\u2019t Need a Title to be a Leader\u201d<\/em><span style=\"color: #444444; line-height: 24px; font-size: 16px;\"> <\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In Mark Sanborn\u2019s <em>\u201cYou Don\u2019t Need a Title to be a Leader, <\/em>Sanborn describes is model with focuses on \u00a0\u201c<em>ROI,\u201d \u00a0Relationships, Outcomes, Improvements. <\/em>He describes six attributes of leadership, which he believes are key:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022Self-Mastery,<br \/>\n\u2022Focus,<br \/>\n\u2022Power with People,<br \/>\n\u2022 Communication,<br \/>\n\u2022Execution,<br \/>\n\u2022Giving.<\/p>\n<p>Simply stated<strong>, self-mastery<\/strong> boils down to managing your \u201cself-mastery matrix,\u201d which measures the promises you make versus the promises you keep.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Focus <\/strong>involves the ability to set an agenda, to identify your priorities, and to essentially, <strong>\u201clive intentionally.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sanborn characterizes <strong>power with people <\/strong>as stemming from <strong>character, competence, and connection<\/strong>. \u00a0For example, being honest and saying \u201cI don\u2019t know\u201d when someone asks you something that you honestly don\u2019t know. Being good at what you do, and having the orientation to build people up and to motivate them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Communication<\/strong>, as Sanborn uses it, refers to a person\u2019s ability to build connection and create rapport with the ultimate goal of shard understanding. Effective communication results in an effective ability to positively influence others.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Execution<\/strong>, as Sanborn describes it, relates to one\u2019s <strong>\u201cIQ.\u201d<\/strong> In this instance IQ does not refer to intelligence quotient, but to <strong>implementation quotient<\/strong>.\u00a0 Effective leaders have proven abilities to envision an outcome and to <em>achieve it.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em> <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Finally, Sanborn posits that effective leaders are <strong>giving. <\/strong>Effective leaders give because it is satisfying and fulfilling to them.
